2.2.5 What Will it Catch?

The WaspBane wasp trap has been tested over many years to identify the insects that it catches. In routine use, beneficial insects including honey bees, bumble bees and lady birds remain safe from the WaspBane wasp trap.

Wasps

The WaspBane wasp trap is designed to catch vespine wasps including wasps from the Vespula, Dolichovespula and Vespa species. Vespine wasps are sometimes called yellowjackets. For images and further information on vespine wasps see the section 3.5 Identification. Vespine wasps are normally found in temperate climates that have cold winters. In Europe, vespine wasps extend from central Europe to the Arctic Circle and wasps found in the UK are almost exclusively vespine wasps.

The WaspBane wasp trap will not catch paper wasps. Paper wasps are those wasps from the Polistes family and include the European paper wasp. For images and further information see section 3.5 Identification. Polistes wasps are found in warmer climates that have mild winters. In Europe, Polistes wasps are found in Mediterranean countries including Spain, Southern France, Italy, Greece, Turkey and the Balearic Islands.

Other Pests

The WaspBane wasp trap will catch a series of insect pests including;

wax moths

apple moths

codling moths

flies

mosquitoes

The WaspBane wasp trap will catch slugs if placed on the ground. However, slugs rot in the WaspBane wasp trap effectively killing the bait system which then stops the WaspBane wasp trap from working.
